My name is Katey. I grew up in Montana. It's beautiful here, if you don't mind long winters. The summers here are perfect. I love to spend time with my family outside in the summer months. We do as much camping as we can. We have 2 bloodhounds that keep us very entertained and on our toes. They are huge dogs, so we have lots to love. As a family, my husband and our daughter, practice and study the martial art of Taekwondo. It's so wonderful having a challenging and rewarding sport that we can do together. I work a full time job as an office manager for a great company with a passion for arboriculture-caring for what we love. I have an infatuation for antiques and the history surrounding them. I enjoy visiting as many antique shops as my husband can stand. In my spare time, and to stay sane, I enjoy spending time in my craft room. It's here where I make your one of a kind rice jewelry pendants . I genuinely hope to build fond relationships with my customers while working in my "happy place".
Rice writing began in the regions of ancient Anatolia in Turkey and India. Rice was used in many ceremonies as a medium representing abundance and prosperity. Some artists, skilled in miniature painting and sculpting began using their unique talents to create the ancient fine art of writing on a single grain of rice. Their intense attention, precise dexterity, and fine vision were very important for their craft.
In many cultures, rice has been seen as a symbol of prosperity, abundance, good fortune, and in some regions, fertility and wealth. In old times, rice had a higher value than gold.
~But why is it made in to JEWELRY?
The art of rice writing grew over time and began to gain demand as gifts, hence the creation of rice jewelry. In this form, a single piece of rice art is placed in a tiny vial and filled with a special liquid/oil that helps magnify the art, allowing for the intricate and meticulous details to be seen and admired. This jewelry has since taken form in way of necklace pendants, bracelet or anklet charms, earrings, and even rings and key chains.
~What’s the limit?
Miniature rice writing is still an art form, in some cultures, where holy sayings are written on a grain of rice and gifted to nobles and religious practitioners.
The world record for rice writing is held by a gentleman located in Jaipur, India. He has written 1,749 characters on a single grain of rice. Holy Smokes!!! In addition, he also holds the record for writing 249 characters on a single strand of human hair. Can you imagine the amount of patience and focus that would take!? I have a long way to go to get to this level, but we all need something to strive for.
I am now taking orders for your unique pieces of rice art. These will make great gifts for anyone and for any occasion.
